Gwangju University Delays Semester Start by 2 Weeks Due to COVID-19 Spread
Opening on the 16th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) announced on the 9th that it will postpone the start of the semester scheduled for the 2nd of next month by two weeks to the 16th in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
Along with this, the course registration schedule for current students has been changed to the 24th to the 28th of this month, and for new and transfer students to the 13th to the 17th of next month.
Follow-up measures such as changes to the academic calendar will be announced through the university website.
Gwangju University conducted the first round of disinfection and sterilization inside the school, including dormitories and classrooms, on the 27th of last month to prevent the novel coronavirus, followed by a second round of disinfection and sterilization on the 7th and 8th.
The third round of disinfection and sterilization is planned for the 15th and 16th of this month.
Fever detectors have been installed at dormitory entrances, and the body temperature and health status of all members entering the dormitories, including international students, will be checked.
In addition, Chinese international students will be tested for diagnostic certificates and fever, and will be quarantined according to the one-person-one-room principle, with restrictions on access to the cafeteria and shared facilities.
Previously, the graduation ceremony scheduled for the 21st and the upcoming entrance ceremony and orientation have been canceled. Instead, orientations within two hours will be conducted by department, and if necessary, orientations may be postponed depending on the situation.
The university has also distributed manuals on infection prevention behavior guidelines throughout the campus and has continuously provided hand sanitizers, masks, non-contact thermometers, and questionnaires.
