First American Dies After Testing Positive for 'New Coronavirus' in China
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] One American citizen has died in China due to the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
According to AFP on the 8th, a spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in China stated, "A 60-year-old American citizen died from the novel coronavirus at a hospital in Wuhan, China, on the 6th."
He added, "We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family." The detailed identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.
This is the first death of an American since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
Earlier, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 6th that 19 foreigners in China had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. At that time, China did not disclose their nationalities.
Among the 19 foreigners residing in China confirmed to have the novel coronavirus, 2 have been discharged, and 17 are undergoing isolated treatment.
