World Meteorological Organization: "Antarctic Peninsula Temperature Hits Record High of 18.3°C"

[Asia Economy International Reporter] The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced on the 7th (local time) that the temperature on the Antarctic Peninsula, located at the northwestern tip of the Antarctic continent, is expected to reach an all-time high.
WMO reported that the Argentine Meteorological Service measured a temperature of 18.3 degrees Celsius at the Esperanza Base the previous day. The previous highest temperature was 17.5 degrees, recorded in March 2015. The Esperanza Base, an Argentine Antarctic research station, is located at the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
However, WMO added, "This record appears to be related to a short-term f?hn phenomenon in the region."

The Antarctic Peninsula is one of the fastest warming areas on Earth, with temperatures rising by 3 degrees over the past 50 years, and retreat has been observed in 87% of the glaciers formed along the western coast of the peninsula during the past 50 years.
