[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Sohn Hak-kyu, leader of the Bareunmirae Party, stated on the 7th regarding the merger with the Alternative New Party and the Party for Democracy and Peace, "The three-party merger is by no means intended to create regionalist parties," adding, "The Bareunmirae Party and I will continue to make every effort to complete political structural reform and generational change centered on the future generation."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Sohn said, "I considered a political alliance with the future generation as the primary task and planned to promote a merger with existing parties after the future generation joined the party," but "due to the rapidly changing political situation, a merger with existing parties has become an urgent priority."
Sohn announced, "We will begin the merger process with the Alternative New Party and the Party for Democracy and Peace," and "We will establish the Grand Integration Reform Committee and appoint Representative Park Joo-sun as its chairman."

Sohn added, "The Bareunmirae Party is the only party that will stabilize the expanded centrist area and make the future generation the new center," and said, "The mixed-member proportional representation system will lay the foundation for a multi-party system and coalition politics going forward, and once the structure of the National Assembly changes after the general election, we will promptly pursue constitutional amendment."
