Candidate Jo O-seop Participates in Blood Donation Amid COVID-19 Blood Shortage
Election Office Special Advisory Group, Volunteers, and Supporters Join In
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 6th, the election office of Jo O-seop, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for the National Assembly election in Buk-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced that they took the lead in ‘blood donation’.
On this day, the campaign’s special advisory group, volunteers, and supporters participated in the blood donation after hearing that the shortage of blood due to the novel coronavirus is a serious situation.
In particular, Candidate Jo appealed for the participation of all election camps running in this general election and Gwangju citizens in blood donation, as the blood supply in the Gwangju area is at a crisis level.
Candidate Jo explained, “The blood supply should be maintained at an average of more than 5 days at all times. If it is less than 3 days, it is defined as a caution stage, and if it is less than 2 days, it is defined as a crisis stage. Currently, the blood supply in the Gwangju area is only 2.5 days (as of February 5), so it is in danger of falling below the crisis stage of less than 2 days.”
When the crisis stage of less than 2 days arrives, the blood supplied to hospitals must be regulated, and patients with scheduled surgeries who are not in urgent condition must donate blood themselves as designated donors.
Candidate Jo said, “Although there are many social problems arising from the novel coronavirus situation, the shortage of blood is a critical issue directly related to life, so active measures are necessary. In response to this situation, the campaign’s special advisory group, volunteers, and supporters voluntarily stepped forward to participate in the blood donation campaign.”
He added, “The life and safety of the people must take precedence over any political justification. For the time being, we plan to restrain face-to-face election activities as much as possible and do our best in promoting measures and prevention activities for resolving the novel coronavirus situation.”
