Gwangju Postal Distribution Center Temporarily Closed Due to COVID-19 Spread
Contact with 16th Confirmed Case... All Employees Placed Under Self-Quarantine
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Postal Sorting Center has been temporarily closed.
This measure was taken after it was confirmed that an employee who had contact with the 16th confirmed case of the novel coronavirus was working at the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center. All employees working there have been placed under self-quarantine.
According to the Jeonnam Regional Post Office on the 5th, the employee working at the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center had contact with the 16th confirmed case of the novel coronavirus during the Lunar New Year holiday. The employee is currently asymptomatic.
The Korea Post immediately suspended all operations at the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center upon confirming the contact and sent all employees home to carry out self-quarantine.
Additionally, disinfection measures were conducted on the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center building, facilities, and equipment. An emergency contact system for employees is being maintained, and a comprehensive response system is in place for rapid reporting of any health abnormalities.
The Postal Sorting Center functions as a logistics center that sorts mail received at post offices.
Unlike regular post offices, it does not handle mail delivery or financial services, so there is not much public access. However, the Korea Post decided to temporarily close the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center to prevent the domestic spread of the novel coronavirus and to ensure the safety of the public and employees.
Operations are expected to resume once the quarantine period for the contacted employee ends.
During the temporary suspension of operations, mail will be distributed and processed through the Central Regional Postal Logistics Center and the Yeongam Postal Sorting Center to provide uninterrupted postal services to the public.
