Hankook Tire to Exclusively Supply Racing Tires for Newly Established Motorsports Championship
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 5th that it will exclusively supply racing tires for the newly established motorsports series, the 'DTM Trophy.'
The DTM Trophy, held for the first time this year, is a newly established motorsports competition where professional, amateur, and junior drivers compete together in speed contests using production-based rear-wheel-drive GT race cars.
Hankook Tire will exclusively supply racing tires to all teams participating in the DTM Trophy for four years starting from 2020, and will provide professional support to teams and drivers by dispatching engineers to every race.
Through this exclusive supply, Hankook Tire has once again solidified its position as a global motorsports partner with world-class racing tire technology. Based on the strong trust built since 2011 by exclusively supplying racing tires for the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), Hankook Tire has signed an exclusive tire supply partnership with the DTM Trophy, which is operated as a support program of DTM.
In particular, as the DTM Trophy is a new challenge by DTM to continue the global momentum of GT racing, Hankook Tire, as a partner brand elevating the status of DTM’s automotive performance testing ground, has impressed motorsports fans worldwide with its high-level performance.
Unlike DTM, where only race cars from three brands?Aston Martin, BMW, and Audi?can participate, the DTM Trophy offers a broader range of vehicle choices. The season champion will receive 75,000 euros and an opportunity to test drive a DTM race car after the season ends, while the second and third place winners will be awarded prize money of 50,000 euros and 25,000 euros, respectively.
The 2020 DTM Trophy will begin its seven-round journey starting with the first race at the Zolder Circuit in Belgium from April 24 to 26, coinciding with the DTM season opener. The final round will take place in October at the Hockenheim Circuit in Germany.
