Justice Party Seeks Expansion by Embracing Youth-Centered 'Miraedang'... "We Will Achieve Generational Change"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Justice Party is seeking to expand its base by pursuing a merger with the progressive youth party Miraedang (Uri Mirae) ahead of the general election.
On the 5th, the Justice Party held a meeting between the general election delegation and Miraedang at the National Assembly Members' Office Building. Justice Party leader Sim Sang-jung said at the meeting, "This election should be one that opens the future of the Republic of Korea. The Justice Party also places the highest importance on generational change," adding, "I hope active cooperation and solidarity will be achieved based on respecting Miraedang’s efforts to challenge politics and achieve results."
He continued, "Citizens' groups and progressive parties, including Miraedang, have organized the Political Reform Citizens' Joint Action and have been fierce partners in fighting together," emphasizing, "In that regard, active solidarity and cooperation are necessary."
The Justice Party plans to establish a 'Youth Justice Party' within the party. It intends to grant personnel authority and financial rights to ensure its independence. It is reported that this plan was proposed to Miraedang as well, requesting their participation.
Regarding this, Oh Taeyang, co-representative of Miraedang, expressed a positive stance, saying, "Creating independent nourishment for youth politics with independent personnel, budget, and project rights is the way to foster youth politics for the next generation," and added, "Institutional-level party reform is necessary."
In this way, ahead of the general election, the Justice Party is continuing its broad efforts to expand its base. Immediately after the meeting, the Justice Party signed an agreement with the civic group 'Moms Making Politics' for citizen election participation, and the day before, it signed election alliances and policy agreements with the Korea Non-Regular Workers Center and the Korea Federation of Agricultural and Livestock Organizations, respectively.
Some analysts interpret this as a strategic move to secure a favorable position in future negotiations for alliances with third-zone unified parties.

Currently, behind-the-scenes efforts are underway among third-zone parties such as the Bareunmirae Party, Alternative New Party, and the Democratic Peace Party to launch a Honam unified party. These parties are in a situation where they need an alliance with the Justice Party to shed their regional Honam image. On the 3rd, it was reported that leader Sim met with Jeong Dong-young, leader of the Democratic Peace Party, to discuss forming a progressive reformist alliance.
