[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Display announced on the 5th that its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panels have obtained the 'Low Blue Light Display' certification mark from UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a U.S. safety certification company.
This certification was conducted using the internationally recognized evaluation method of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). LG Display's OLED panels were measured to emit 50% less harmful blue light to users' eyes compared to the IEC harmlessness standard. LG Display explained that this is approximately 60% of the blue light emission level of the highest-spec LCD TVs of the same screen size currently on the market.
With the acquisition of this certification mark, LG Display expects the value of OLED TVs to be further enhanced, attracting more consumers' choices. LG Display plans to allow OLED TV clients and distributors to utilize this certification mark.
Chang-ho Oh, Vice President and Head of LG Display's TV Business Division, said, "This means that LG Display's OLED TV panels have been internationally recognized as displays that are reasonable for viewers' eye health," adding, "We expect consumers to choose OLED TVs with confidence going forward."
Mirko Bautz, Vice President in charge of UL Global Accounts, stated, "UL is a global company with extensive experience and expertise in testing and evaluation," and added, "We will spare no support to ensure LG Display's OLED is recognized for quality in the international market as the next-generation display."
