China Reports 24,324 Cumulative COVID-19 Cases and 490 Deaths (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In China, 490 people have died and 24,324 have been confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus so far.
On the 5th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 3,887 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported within China. There were 65 additional deaths, all from Hubei Province, the outbreak epicenter.
As of this day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in China reached 24,324. Among them, 3,219 are classified as severe cases, and the number of additional deaths is expected to continue rising.
The cumulative death toll stands at 490, and the number of suspected cases is 23,260. On the other hand, a total of 892 patients have recovered and been discharged so far.
The number of close contacts with patients is 252,154, of whom 185,555 are under medical observation.

Outside mainland China, the number of confirmed cases in Chinese-speaking regions is 39 in total: 18 in Hong Kong (including 1 death), 10 in Macao, and 11 in Taiwan.
