President Moon Meets Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen: "Expanding Economic Exchanges with Mekong Countries"

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 4th, President Moon Jae-in held a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is visiting Korea, at the Blue House to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries and reaffirm support for the Korean Peninsula peace process.
At 4:30 p.m. that day, President Moon met with Prime Minister Hun Sen in the reception room of the Blue House main building and said, "Last year, the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit and the Korea-Mekong Summit were successfully held, making us closer friends with the ASEAN countries," adding, "Korea hopes to further expand economic exchange and cooperation with the ASEAN peoples and Mekong countries."
President Moon and Prime Minister Hun Sen highly evaluated the institutional cooperation foundation solidified through the 'Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement' and the 'Criminal Justice Cooperation Treaty' signed last November, and agreed to continue close cooperation to further promote active trade and investment cooperation and human exchange between the two countries.
President Moon stated, "There is great expectation as close cooperation is underway in various fields including joint research on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and agricultural development," and added, "Korea will also actively cooperate for the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit to be held in Cambodia this year." He further expressed his hope that "this year will be a year in which mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries is further strengthened."
Additionally, President Moon expressed his gratitude for Cambodia's active support of the Korean government's efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula. Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed his consistent support and encouragement for the Korean Peninsula peace process.
Prime Minister Hun Sen responded, "The relationship between Korea and Cambodia is deepening very rapidly," and said, "I am pleased with the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement signed between the two countries, and I hope that more investors will enter Cambodia as a result."

Prime Minister Hun Sen was absent from the '2019 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit' and the '1st Korea-Mekong Summit' held in Busan last November due to his mother-in-law's health issues. It appears that he took the opportunity of his visit to Korea for a private event to meet with President Moon.
