Guro-gu Forms Foreigners and Multicultural Monitoring Team to Prevent Novel Coronavirus
Formation of Monitoring Team Linked with Foreign and Multicultural Organizations... Utilizing Personal Networks to Detect Suspicious Cases... Spreading Prevention Rules and Action Guidelines to Family, Neighbors, and Acquaintances... Highly Effective for Foreigners with Limited Korean Skills
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has strengthened public-private cooperation to prevent the novel coronavirus.
Guro-gu formed a permanent monitoring team of about 100 members by recruiting volunteers from foreign and multicultural-related organizations in the area.
The monitoring team uses personal networks to identify visitors to the area or individuals who require investigation and management. They maintain an emergency contact system with the district office to enable immediate intervention upon detecting suspicious cases.
They also disseminate infection prevention guidelines and behavioral instructions to members of affiliated organizations, their families, neighbors, and acquaintances. The district expects this to be especially effective for foreign residents who are not proficient in Korean.
Guro-gu has also intensified infection prevention publicity activities targeting public institutions, related organizations, and major facilities in the area. Various methods such as the district office website, SNS, electronic display boards, banners, and leaflet distribution are being utilized.
Additionally, infection prevention guideline notices with Korean, English, and Chinese text have been distributed to traditional markets, labor markets, welfare centers, and construction sites in the area. Protective masks and hand sanitizers have also been provided.
Since the 28th of last month, Guro-gu has been operating a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. Led by Mayor Lee Seong, six support teams including the General Control Team, Epidemiological Investigation Team, and Response Support Team have been organized to oversee all emergency response tasks such as managing surveillance targets, epidemiological investigations, monitoring, and distributing hygiene supplies.
To ensure prompt testing and treatment when suspected patients arise, a screening clinic has been established and operated in a separate space on the first floor of the public health center, and a close cooperative system with local medical institutions is maintained.
