Launch of 2nd Research Team to Establish Net Neutrality Policy Direction Within the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The government has embarked on a full-scale effort to revise the net neutrality policy direction and guidelines within this year.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the afternoon of the 4th that it held the first meeting of the 2nd Net Neutrality Research Group.
The 2nd research group consists of a total of 17 members, including legal and technical academic experts, internet companies such as Naver, the three mobile carriers including SK Telecom, the Internet Enterprise Association, Korea Startup Forum, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and the Korea Information Society Development Institute. Professor Seong-yeop Lee of Korea University Graduate School of Technology Management serves as the chairperson.
During the first research group held from June to December last year, a total of six meetings were held, gathering opinions from various sectors on revising the net neutrality guidelines and forming a general consensus on the need to revise net neutrality reflecting technological advancements such as 5G.
The 2nd research group will discuss, as a continuation of the 1st group's discussions, ▲ detailed provision conditions for managed services ▲ measures to ensure transparency in traffic management ▲ other matters related to revising the net neutrality guidelines.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to establish the net neutrality policy direction within this year based on the results of the research group’s operation. Subsequently, after collecting opinions from the industry and others, it plans to proceed with revising the net neutrality guidelines.
