Hwasun-gun Supports 'Village-Level Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Operations'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 3rd that it will support 'village-level agricultural byproduct (sesame stalks, chili pepper stalks, pruned fruit tree branches, etc.) shredding operations' to reduce fine dust emissions in the agricultural sector.
This project, utilizing branch shredders for rent from the Agricultural Machinery Rental Office, is being promoted to reduce fine dust generated by the conventional burning of leftover agricultural byproducts after last year's harvest ahead of the full-scale farming season.
Additionally, a 'Village-wide Shredding Day' will be designated for each village, and if a rental application is submitted to the Agricultural Machinery Rental Office, the branch shredder will be rented free of charge.
The free rental period lasts until the end of next month, and the rental period per village is one day.
The village representative (village head) can apply by selecting the desired date of use.
The county plans to provide support on a first-come, first-served basis according to the order of application and will adjust the schedule if rentals are completed on the requested day.

An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, "Burning agricultural byproducts has low effectiveness in pest control, poses a high fire risk, and is problematic as a source of fine dust emissions. We ask that agricultural byproducts be shredded and used as compost to increase soil organic matter content and preserve the future agricultural environment."
