Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital Selected as the Entrusted Operator of Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center
Specialized Consultation and Education on Dementia and Various Brain Disorders Planned
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) signed a business agreement with Catholic University Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital this month for a three-year “Dementia Safety Center Consignment Operation” until December 31, 2022.
The Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center had been consigned and operated by Seoul Metropolitan Northwestern Hospital for 12 years from 2008 to 2019, and this is the first time since its opening that the consigned hospital has changed.
Starting this year, Catholic University Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital will take charge of operating the Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center, playing a leading role in overcoming dementia from diagnosis, treatment, to management.
The new center director is Professor Shim Yong-su of the Neurology Department at Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital, who will be responsible for specialized treatment, counseling, and education on dementia as well as language and memory disorders (mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia), and various brain diseases based on his clinical experience and know-how.
Based on the slogan “Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center that finds yesterday and today, and dreams of tomorrow,” the Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center is establishing and performing a system that can comprehensively manage dementia patients and their families so they can live with less worry.
The main projects of the Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center include ▲early dementia screening ▲dementia prevention and awareness improvement ▲dementia prevention registration management ▲case management ▲operation of rest centers for dementia patients ▲cognitive programs for normal and high-risk elderly ▲programs for dementia families ▲treatment cost support ▲wandering prevention services ▲public guardianship for dementia ▲strengthening dementia community resources ▲dementia-friendly safe villages ▲and designated primary care physicians.
Shim Yong-su, director of the Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center, said, “We expect that the Eunpyeong-gu Dementia Safety Center and Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital will develop together through this consignment, and I believe that our collective efforts will build an environment where people can feel safe even with dementia.”
