Subway Line 2 'Nakseongdae Station' and 'Gang Gamchan Station' Dual Naming Confirmed
Finalized on December 26 Last Year... Dual Naming Possible for Subway Line 2 Nakseongdae Station and Gang Gam-chan Station... Helps Build 'Gang Gam-chan City' Brand
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced that the name change to co-name Nakseongdae Station on Subway Line 2 as ‘Nakseongdae (Gang Gam-chan) Station’ has been finalized.
This is the result of years of efforts and consultations with related organizations to fulfill the long-standing wish of residents to use both Nakseongdae Station and Gang Gam-chan Station names together.
Since establishing the ‘Nakseongdae Station Name Revision Promotion Plan’ in 2016, the district collected opinions from 2,879 residents near Nakseongdae Station through a survey in 2017, confirming 71% approval, and submitted a request for the station name change to Seoul City in December 2017.
Seoul City set criteria for station name changes, and the Naming Committee reviewed and approved the change proposal. The station name was finalized after a public announcement on December 26 last year.
With this confirmed name change, adding Gang Gam-chan to Nakseongdae Station clarifies that Gwanak-gu is the birthplace of General Gang Gam-chan, and it is expected to elevate the status of the national hero General Gang Gam-chan.
Additionally, in June last year, the district named the section passing through Gwanak-gu from Siheung IC to Sadang IC on Nambusunhwan-ro (7.6 km) as ‘Gang Gam-chan-daero’ and designated it as an honorary road, creating an opportunity to widely promote the Gang Gam-chan general city brand.
Gwanak-gu is focusing on building the Gang Gam-chan city brand that strengthens the region’s historical and cultural identity and creating a ‘Gang Gam-chan themed city’ where the heroic spirit of General Gang Gam-chan can be felt throughout the area.
