Teenager Steals Foreign Car and Flees from Incheon to Gwangju
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] Two teenagers who stole a foreign car and drove it without a license from Incheon to Gwangju have been caught by the police.
The Gwangju Western Police Station announced on the 31st of last month that they have applied for an arrest warrant for A (18) on charges including special theft. B (14), who committed the crime together with A, was handed over to a guardian after the investigation.
The two are accused of stealing a foreign car that was parked with the door unlocked in an underground parking lot of an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at around 1:46 a.m. on the 28th of last month. They are also charged with driving the vehicle without a license for hundreds of kilometers.
A, a runaway teenager, was investigated to have tried to steal valuables from the unlocked car to get living expenses, but after finding a spare key inside the car, she drove away on the spot.
They drove the vehicle without a license, departing from Incheon and passing through Cheongju in Chungbuk, Daejeon, Chungnam, Hongseong, and Gwangju. Among these, in Daejeon, they also hit four cars and fled.
Meanwhile, the Incheon police investigating the case confirmed that they used the car owner's credit card to pay at a lodging facility in Gwangju and requested cooperation from the Gwangju police.
Subsequently, the Gwangju police found the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the lodging facility and urgently arrested the two.
