[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Lee Seong-hee has been elected as the 24th president to lead the NongHyup Central Association.
On the 31st, at the NongHyup Central Association auditorium, during an extraordinary delegates' meeting attended by nationwide delegate union heads, Lee Seong-hee was elected as the new president of the NongHyup Central Association after a close contest that went to a second round of voting, securing 177 votes, which is 60.4% of the total 293 valid votes.
In this election, 10 candidates ran in order of ballot number: Lee Seong-hee, Kang Ho-dong, Cheon Ho-jin, Lim Myeong-taek, Moon Byung-wan, Kim Byung-guk, Yoo Nam-young, Yeo Won-gu, Lee Ju-seon, and Choi Deok-gyu. Since no candidate received a majority in the first round, the top two candidates, Lee Seong-hee and Yoo Nam-young, faced off in a runoff vote to decide the winner.
President-elect Lee Seong-hee is the first NongHyup Central Association president from the Seoul metropolitan area. He has led reforms and development of the NongHyup Central Association, serving as the head of Nakseong NongHyup (Seongnam, Gyeonggi), a director of the NongHyup Central Association, and chairman of the audit committee for seven years.
