Korea Gallup announced on the 31st that a survey conducted from the 28th to the 30th among 1,000 adults nationwide aged 18 and over showed the Democratic Party's support rate dropped 5 percentage points from two weeks ago to 34%.
The Democratic Party's support hovered between 36% and 38% during the height of the 'Cho Kuk incident' last September and October, then showed signs of recovery from late October, maintaining around 40%. However, it sharply declined this week, falling to the lowest level since the Moon Jae-in administration began.
Gallup explained this decline by stating, "The change in party support this week appears to be related to issues surrounding the general election," adding, "In particular, the Democratic Party faced controversies over the screening of newly recruited figures and preliminary candidates for the general election."
The Liberty Korea Party's support rate fell by 1 percentage point to 21%. The Justice Party rose by 1 percentage point to 6%, while the Bareunmirae Party and the New Conservative Party each dropped by 1 percentage point to 2%. All other parties and groups were below 1%. The non-affiliated group, those without party support, increased by 6 percentage points to 33%, which is also the highest since the Moon Jae-in administration began.
President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration's performance was recorded at 41%, down 4 percentage points from two weeks ago (45%). Negative evaluations rose by 4 percentage points to 50%.
The most common reasons for positive evaluations were "good diplomacy" at 10%, followed by "doing their best/working hard" (8%), "overall good performance" (7%), and "response to the novel coronavirus" (7%).
The top reason for negative evaluations was "lack of solutions to economic and livelihood issues" at 24%, with "overall inadequacy" (7%), "personnel issues" (7%), and "focus on North Korea relations/pro-North Korea stance" (7%) tied for second place. Inadequate response to the novel coronavirus (5%) was also cited as a reason for negative evaluations.
