'MacArthur Statue Burning Ceremony' Anti-American Group Leader Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison

The Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Justice Lee Dong-won) on the 30th upheld the original sentence of one year in prison for Lee Mo (63), the representative of the anti-American group, who was indicted on charges including damage to special public property.

Lee was arrested and indicted for setting fire twice to the stone tower beneath the MacArthur statue and holding illegal rallies at Jayu Park in Jung-gu, Incheon, on July 27 and October 23, 2018, claiming to hold a burning ceremony for the MacArthur statue. The first trial sentenced Lee to one year in prison, and both the appellate court and the Supreme Court upheld the same judgment.
