[2020 Asia Consumer Awards] Jongga Kimchi, Half a Century of Advanced Fermentation Technology
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Established in 1956 with purely domestic capital and technology, Daesang is celebrating its 64th anniversary this year and continues steady growth while leading food culture both domestically and internationally.
The comprehensive food business centers around the comprehensive food family brand 'Cheongjeongwon,' introduced in 1996, offering differentiated strategic products such as 'Sunchang Gochujang,' 'Hongcho,' 'Health Thinking,' 'Curry Queen,' 'Woori Farm,' 'Matseonsaeng,' and 'Shinan Island Treasure.' In May 2015, Daesang announced a new Cheongjeongwon BI (Brand Identity) and has been conducting aggressive marketing activities.
In particular, 'Jongga Jip,' the first packaged kimchi brand, has established itself as a representative kimchi brand not only in Korea but also overseas, thanks to the convenience of eating kimchi easily. Ninety percent of the export volume to Japan and over 80% of the volume exported to Asian regions such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore are consumed by locals. Currently, it has expanded to more than 40 countries worldwide, including the Americas, Europe, and Asian countries.
The annual domestic napa cabbage usage for Jongga Jip kimchi reaches about 60,000 tons. Considering the characteristics of napa cabbage, which vary in quality depending on the growth period and are greatly affected by seasonal factors, the highest quality napa cabbage is pre-purchased and stockpiled according to timing and regional characteristics. Jongga Jip kimchi has developed its own storage technology that allows long-term stockpiling of napa cabbage, enabling stable supply and demand.
