Gangjin-gun to Host the 2020 World University Weightlifting Championships

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jeonnam Gangjin-gun announced on the 29th that the intense training of weightlifting athletes is heating up the sports fever ahead of the 2020 World University Weightlifting Championships.
From the 28th of last month until February 16th, 34 national weightlifting representatives are undergoing training camps in Gangjin-gun for 20 days.
In addition, starting from the 9th of next month, six corporate teams including Gwangju City Hall will participate in training camps, and during March and April, the national team will visit Gangjin for training in preparation for the 2020 World University Weightlifting Championships.
This training camp offers a dual benefit as athletes prepare for the competition while simultaneously adapting to the local environment at the event venue.
The World University Weightlifting Championships, hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), is held every two years. This year, from October 20th to 24th, over 500 athletes and officials from 40 countries are expected to participate in Gangjin-gun over five days.

Lee Seung-ok, the mayor of Gangjin-gun, said, “We will make further efforts to revitalize the local economy by linking the 2020 World University Weightlifting Championships with the training camps, and we hope that the athletes will lift not only gold medals but the world itself through the effects of the training camps.”
