Comprehensive Survey and Self-Quarantine Recommendation for Visitors from China... Various Support Measures Also Provided
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University (President Jeong Byeongseok) has launched emergency measures against the novel coronavirus infection.
On the 28th, Chonnam National University held an emergency countermeasure meeting and announced on the 29th that it reviewed response plans to protect faculty, staff, and students returning from visits to China, especially Chinese international students returning after celebrating the Lunar New Year, from infectious diseases and to prevent the spread of infections.
All subjects are advised to self-quarantine and will be provided with masks, hand sanitizers, and non-contact thermometers, and necessary support measures such as hospital diagnosis will be considered. In particular, students living in dormitories will be actively encouraged to live separately in isolated spaces during the virus incubation period.
Chonnam National University has established emergency countermeasure committees chaired by the president on both the Gwangju campus and the Yeosu campus, and has begun a full survey of professors, students, staff, and researchers who have recently visited or stayed in China, using various methods such as email, group KakaoTalk rooms, and contact with academic advisors to identify priority protection targets.
In addition, students who are unable to take the comprehensive graduate school graduation exam held on the same day will be given a first additional exam opportunity next month, and if necessary, additional opportunities to take the exam will be provided to ensure no disadvantages arise from the infectious disease prevention measures.
In particular, the university will reconsider postponing the dispatch of 30 Chonnam National University students scheduled to be sent to China next month and the invitation of 78 students coming from China. The orientation event for new students has also been postponed, and if the national infection situation worsens, the graduation ceremony and entrance ceremony will also be adjusted.
President Jeong Byeongseok said, “As the nation has issued an alert, Chonnam National University has also entered an emergency state and is actively working to prevent the spread of infectious diseases,” adding, “We will implement comprehensive measures to raise awareness of infectious diseases and resolve anxiety or conflicts in cooperation with Buk-gu, Gwangju City, Yeosu City, and the Immigration Office.”
