[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, visited Yonhap News TV and KBS on the 28th to inspect the disaster broadcasting situation related to the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) and urged accurate reporting.
On the day, Chairman Han said, "To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, it is necessary to provide the public with accurate information and alleviate their anxiety through precise reporting rather than competing for breaking news."
In response to the Korea Communications Commission's request to broadcast disaster information in preparation for the spread of the novel coronavirus, major broadcasters including KBS, the main disaster broadcasting station, and Yonhap News TV have been airing disaster special reports and public action guidelines since the 23rd, along with sign language and English subtitles.
The Korea Communications Commission also supports the Korea Communications Standards Commission in monitoring information that causes social confusion related to the novel coronavirus and strengthening self-regulation by service providers, and requested cooperation from portal operators to promote accurate novel coronavirus response guidelines.
