Gyeryongsan National Park 'Wildfire' Extinguished in 6 Hours... 0.7ha of Forest Lost
[Asia Economy (Gongju) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A forest fire occurred in Gyeryongsan National Park, destroying 0.7 hectares of forest land. The fire was fully extinguished within 6 hours.
According to Chungnam Fire Department on the 27th, the fire started around 8:47 PM the previous day at Gocheongbong, located at the foot of Gyeryongsan National Park in Hasin-ri, Banpo-myeon, Gongju City, and was declared extinguished around 3:05 AM on the 27th.
At the time of the fire, the fire department issued Response Level 1, mobilizing firefighters in the jurisdiction on emergency call, and Gongju City also mobilized all public officials to the fire site to carry out firefighting operations.
During this process, Gongju City evacuated residents to the village hall out of concern that the fire might spread to nearby villages (200 to 300 meters from the fire site), and after completely extinguishing the fire, allowed residents to return to their homes.
Currently, the fire department and police have found traces of burning in a field near the fire origin point and are investigating the cause of the fire, focusing on the possibility that embers spread to the mountain while burning leaves gathered in the field.
