According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, a nearby resident reported to 119, saying "It seems someone is setting fire to the house."
The fire completely burned the house and was extinguished by the dispatched firefighters in about 40 minutes. At the scene, the resident A (76) was found dead.
The police arrested B (43), A's son who lived with her, at the scene as a suspect of arson. At the time, B was holding a weapon in his hand and confronted the police, but it is known that he did not resist.
In the police investigation, B stated that the fire spread to the house by accident while burning his father's belongings, and that he had no intention to kill his mother.
The police are investigating the detailed motive for the crime and the cause of A's death.
