The Film Archive Screens a Series of Japanese Films Submitted to the Academy
The Korean Film Archive will hold the 'Japan Foundation Movie Festival' from the 28th of this month to the 9th of next month. This event is co-hosted annually with the Japan Foundation Seoul Cultural Center. It introduces a variety of Japanese films, from classics to new releases.
This year, a large number of Japanese films submitted for the Academy International Feature Film Award (Foreign Language Film Award) will be showcased. These include Mikio Naruse's "The Woman in the Dunes (1957)," Masaki Kobayashi's "Kwaidan (1964)," Akira Kurosawa's "Dodes'ka-den (1970)" and "Madadayo (1993)," Kohei Oguri's "Mud River (1981)," and Yojiro Takita's "Good & Bye (2008)." Also featured are Ryoichi Kimizuka's "Nobody to Watch Over Me (2009)," Ryota Nakano's "Her Love Boils Bathwater (2016)," Hirokazu Koreeda's "Shoplifters (2018)," and Makoto Shinkai's "Weathering with You (2019)."

Another section, "Happy Together: Animal Film Special," presents five excellent works depicting the bond between humans and animals. These include Toru Kamei's "Puppy Mameshiba (2009)" and "Mameshiba Ichiro 3D (2012)," Yoshiaki Tokita's "Dreams of a Cow Veterinarian (2014)," Koichiro Miki's "The Traveling Cat Chronicles (2018)," and Akane Yamada's "The Day I Gave My Dog Its First Name."
