40-Year-Old Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run Involving 7-Year-Old Girl in School Zone
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] A man in his 40s who hit a 7-year-old girl in a school zone and fled the scene the day before the Lunar New Year holiday was caught by the police.
According to the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station on the 24th, at around 11:20 p.m. the previous day, B (7) was hit by a car driven by A (40) in front of an elementary school in Yangsan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
A did not provide appropriate first aid and fled the scene. He was caught about 1 km away by the police who were dispatched following a report from B’s parents who were with her.
The police detected signs of drunk driving such as the smell of alcohol on A and attempted a breathalyzer test, but he refused. Blood was drawn and sent to the National Forensic Service to accurately measure his blood alcohol concentration.
B was taken to a nearby hospital but is reported to be in an unconscious state.
