Seoul Innovation Park and University of Seoul Join Forces to Become a Global Social Innovation Cluster
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] ‘Seoul Innovation Park,’ the central hub of Seoul’s social innovation ecosystem and the largest social innovation complex in Korea, is evolving into a ‘Global Social Innovation Cooperation District (Cluster)’ where innovation, research, education, and youth are organically connected.
On the 19th, Seoul City announced that it plans to establish the Eunpyeong Innovation Campus, the second campus of the University of Seoul, within Seoul Innovation Park, aiming for completion in early 2025. Located adjacent to Bulgwang Station on Line 3, the campus will have a total floor area of approximately 15,000㎡ and will be used as a liberal arts college including innovative educational programs. In particular, the goal is to develop and operate various education and research programs specialized in the field of social innovation by linking with the excellent resources of the existing Seoul Innovation Park. The total cost for constructing the new facility is estimated to be around 135 billion to 150 billion KRW.
Additionally, Seoul Innovation Park will also house the ‘Global Social Innovation Open Campus,’ which Seoul City is independently promoting. This will be a global innovation talent incubator where domestic and international innovators active in solving social problems are trained and interact.
Seoul City is comprehensively advancing the construction of facilities related to three institutions, including the Seoul Institute, which announced plans last August to relocate to Seoul Innovation Park as part of the core strategy for balanced development between Gangnam and Gangbuk areas. The goal is to create synergy by linking these with existing resident facilities within Seoul Innovation Park, such as Miraecheong and Cheongnyeoncheong.
