Moon Jiji Approval Rating, Positive 45% Negative 46%... Positive and Negative 'Cross' [Gallup]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Following the Realmeter opinion poll, a survey by Korea Gallup also showed that negative evaluations of President Moon Jae-in's state affairs management outpaced positive evaluations.
Gallup announced on the 17th that in a nationwide survey conducted from the 14th to the 16th targeting 1,000 adults, 45% of respondents gave a positive evaluation of President Moon's job performance. Negative evaluations were higher at 46%. The positive rate dropped by 2 percentage points compared to the previous week, while the negative rate rose by 3 percentage points.
By age group, positive/negative rates were 41%/38% for those in their 20s, 61%/31% for 30s, 57%/36% for 40s, 42%/53% for 50s, and 31%/61% for those 60 and older. By political party support, 82% of the Democratic Party supporters and 74% of the Justice Party supporters evaluated the president's job performance positively, but 94% of Liberty Korea Party supporters were negative, and among the non-affiliated (無黨) group without party support, negative views were also more prevalent (positive 25%, negative 52%).
When asked the reasons for positive evaluations from those who rated the president's job performance positively (448 people), the responses were 'Prosecution reform' (11%), 'Good diplomacy' (10%), 'Doing his best / working hard', 'Overall doing well' (both 7%), 'Expansion of welfare' (5%), 'Improvement in relations with North Korea', 'Reform / clearing out deep-rooted evils / reform will', 'Better than previous administrations' (all 4%), 'Good communication', 'Faithful to basics / principled / fairness', 'Real estate policy', and 'Efforts for ordinary people' (all 3%) in that order.
Those who gave negative evaluations (456 people) cited reasons such as 'Lack of solutions to economic and livelihood issues' (26%), 'Overall insufficient' (14%), 'Autocratic / unilateral / biased' (8%), 'Focus on North Korea relations / pro-North Korea tendency', 'Personnel issues' (both 7%), 'Pressure on prosecution', and 'Real estate policy' (both 5%). Mentions related to prosecution increased compared to last week in both positive and negative evaluation reasons.
Regarding party support, the Democratic Party stood at 39%, Liberty Korea Party at 22%, Justice Party at 5%, and both Bareunmirae Party and New Conservative Party at 3% each. Other parties and organizations were all below 1%. Compared to the previous week, the Democratic Party and Justice Party each dropped by 1 percentage point, while the Liberty Korea Party rose by 2 percentage points.
In addition, preferences for the next political leader were as follows: former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon (24%), Liberty Korea Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn (9%), former Bareunmirae Party co-leader Ahn Cheol-soo (4%), Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (3%), Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo (both 2%), New Conservative Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, and Chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation Yoo Si-min (all 1%).

This survey contacted 6,750 men and women aged 19 and older nationwide, with a final 1,000 respondents completing the survey, recording a 15% response rate.
