Shinhwa News Agency "Phase 1 Agreement, Foundation for Handling Subsequent Issues"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 16th, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency commented on the signing of the US-China Phase One trade agreement, calling it "a step in the right direction to resolve economic and trade conflicts" and stating that it "laid the foundation for properly handling follow-up issues."
It also added, "While the conclusion of the Phase One agreement does not mean all problems are resolved, it is clearly a smooth start to problem-solving," and "It helps not only the two countries but also the world by bringing US-China relations back onto a normal track."
Furthermore, it said, "We have shown through the signing of this Phase One trade agreement that the more complex the situation, the more we need to gather strategic and firm strength and handle our own affairs well," and self-assessed, "The economic collapse of China initially expected by the US at the start of the trade war did not occur, and last year China showed a growth rate of 'steady progress' exceeding 6%, with the total economy approaching 100 trillion yuan, and the per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is also expected to exceed 10,000 dollars."
The Communist Party's official newspaper, the People's Daily, also commented on the trade agreement on the same day, stating, "Objectively speaking, the Phase One trade agreement reflects the interests of both sides and is a 'win-win' agreement based on equality and mutual respect," and reported, "Although the two countries fought, they continued negotiations, overcoming several difficulties and achieving a challenging outcome." It also urged, "To end the trade war, both sides must face each other and take actions to control conflicts."
