The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Transport Committee announced the results of the analysis of the usage performance of the 2019 Metropolitan Altteul Transportation Card pilot project on the 16th.
The Metropolitan Altteul Transportation Card is a project that offers transportation cost savings by providing a 10% discount on commuter passes and an additional mileage discount of up to 20% depending on the amount of walking or cycling. The pilot project started in 2018 in Sejong, Ulsan, and Jeonbuk Jeonju, and in 2019, the pilot areas were expanded to 11 regions nationwide including Busan, Incheon, Daejeon, and Gyeonggi. The Ministry of Land plans to fully expand the project this year to 101 cities, counties, and districts in 13 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
This survey was conducted on 14,502 users who used the Altteul Card for six months from July to December last year in the pilot project areas. Users were found to have used public transportation an average of 40.6 times per month last year, spending 72,253 KRW in fares. They received a total benefit of 12,246 KRW through the Metropolitan Altteul Transportation Card, including 7,840 KRW in mileage accumulation and 4,406 KRW in card discounts, saving 17% of their transportation costs. In particular, those who used it daily for commuting (44 times per month) saved an average of 13,930 KRW per month.
By region, 9,509 people, or 68%, were residents of the Seoul metropolitan area including Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi. Users who used the card 41 times or more per month accounted for 7,256 people, or 50% of users. By age group, people in their 20s and 30s accounted for 57.8% (8,378 people) and 23.6% (3,424 people), respectively, making up 81.4% of all users. A Ministry of Land official explained, "It was analyzed that the youth, who have a high dependence on public transportation, actively participated." By gender, women accounted for 74%, higher than men (26%), and by occupation, office workers (67%) and students (18%) had high usage rates.
Separately, a 2019 project satisfaction survey showed that 82.7% of respondents were satisfied (35.1% very satisfied, 47.6% satisfied). The survey was conducted over eight days from November 20 to 27 last year with 5,298 users.
