POSCO Cheongam Foundation Completes 1st POSCO Dream Camp 'Winter Camp'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The POSCO Chungam Foundation concluded the schedule of the 'POSCO Dream Camp 1st Winter Camp,' held for 13 days and 12 nights from the 3rd, targeting 60 second-year middle school students in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas, and held a completion ceremony on the 15th at the POSCO Human Resources Creation Center in Songdo.
About 80 participants, including the middle school students and university student mentors, attended the ceremony. Kim Sun-wook, Chairman of the POSCO Chungam Foundation; Nam Hong-sik, Superintendent of Pohang Office of Education; Jeon Woo-sun, Scholarship Officer; Oh Su-jin, Scholarship Officer of Gwangyang Office of Education; and Kim Hyung-gi, Principal of Gwangyang Steel Middle School, joined to congratulate the graduates.
As part of practicing POSCO's management philosophy of 'Corporate Citizenship Growing Together,' the POSCO Dream Camp, which began in August last year, supports learning in major subjects such as English and mathematics for middle school students in Pohang and Gwangyang who have the will and enthusiasm to study but do not benefit from private education during vacation periods. It also provides university student mentors with jobs and scholarships to simultaneously resolve educational imbalance and social polarization.
The POSCO Dream Camp operates as a total of four weeks, consisting of a two-week basic summer camp and a two-week advanced winter camp. Between the summer camp and the winter camp, during the four months of the semester, students acquire self-directed learning through online mentoring, maintaining continuity of the summer camp's learning content, thereby enhancing the sustainability of education and learning effectiveness.
The students participating in this winter camp were those who completed the summer camp and had high participation in online mentoring. Together with 19 university student mentors, they lived and studied at the POSCO Group's educational facility, the POSCO Human Resources Creation Center, engaging in classes on mathematics and English, self-directed learning methods, and various programs to resolve concerns about their career paths.

Meanwhile, the POSCO Chungam Foundation, besides the POSCO Dream Camp, selects about 50 POSCO Vision Scholars annually from new university students in Pohang and Gwangyang who are striving academically with good character despite difficult circumstances, providing tuition support for four years until graduation. This effort embodies the management philosophy of corporate citizenship growing together with the local community and strives to resolve the most significant issue in our society, polarization.
