KOSPI Opens Higher Maintaining 2240 Level... KOSDAQ Also Shows Strong Gains Together
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] On the 14th, the KOSPI opened higher and maintained the 2240 level.
As of 9:10 a.m. that day, the KOSPI recorded 2246.31, up 17.05 points (0.76%) from the previous session.
The KOSPI opened at 2243.06, up 13.80 points (0.62%) from the previous session, and maintained its upward trend.
In the stock market, individuals and foreigners net bought 18.1 billion KRW and 43.4 billion KRW respectively, while institutions net sold 56.3 billion KRW.
By sector, chemicals (1.45%), steel & metals (0.57%), and medical precision instruments (1.87%) rose, while transportation & warehousing (0.33%) and pharmaceuticals (0.31%) declined.
Among the top 10 by market capitalization, Samsung Electronics (1.17%), SK Hynix (2.49%), NAVER (0.53%), Hyundai Motor (1.74%), and LG Chem (2.56%) rose. Samsung Biologics (0.57%) and Celltrion (0.28%) fell.
Seosangyoung, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, explained, "The increased likelihood of the U.S. Treasury removing China from the currency manipulator list is expected to have a positive impact on foreigners' net buying trend. In particular, following related reports, the offshore yuan exchange rate strengthened about 0.5% against the dollar, which raises expectations for the won's appreciation against the dollar." He added, "This won appreciation trend is expected to positively influence the Korean stock market by increasing the possibility of foreigners' net buying."
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was also up 2.99 points (0.44%) from the previous session at 682.21.
The KOSDAQ opened at 682.14, up 2.92 points (0.43%) from the previous trading day, continuing its strong performance.
In the KOSDAQ market, individuals and institutions net sold 14.6 billion KRW and 0.8 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners net bought 15.5 billion KRW.
By sector, paper & wood (0.6%) and semiconductors (1.73%) rose, while software (0.18%) and broadcasting services (0.17%) declined.

Among the top market capitalization stocks in the KOSDAQ market, Celltrion Healthcare (0.76%), Medytox (5.04%), Paradise (2.09%), and SK Materials (1.28%) rose. HL Biopharma (0.8%), Pearl Abyss (0.91%), and Helixmith (1.56%) were on the decline.
