Gangnam-gu Provides Up to 1 Million KRW Monthly Support to SMEs Hiring Youth Interns
Up to 10 Months, Maximum 3 People per Company... Monthly Regular Recruitment Until November
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) is recruiting companies to participate in the 'Small and Medium Enterprise Youth Internship' program, which is implemented to resolve youth unemployment and promote employment, until November.
The youth internship, which has been promoted since 2010, is a project that supports wages of 800,000 to 1,000,000 KRW per month per person for three months to small and medium enterprises that hire unemployed youth aged 15 to 34 as interns.
If the intern is converted to a regular employee, the support period is extended by 7 months, up to a maximum of 10 months, with up to 3 people per company. Intern employees can receive a fixed monthly wage of 1,800,000 KRW or more.
Eligible participants are small and medium enterprises with 5 or more regular employees located in the area, and applications can be submitted to the Gangnam-gu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (☎563-1608) or the Korea Exhibition Organizers Association (☎567-5311).
The first recruitment period for companies is until the 17th, and the second recruitment starts from February 3. However, the recruitment may close early if the support budget is exhausted. For more details, please contact the District Office Job Policy Division (☎3423-5565).

Lee Yong-dal, Head of the Job Policy Division, said, “Among 1,392 youth internship graduates, 1,313, accounting for 94%, have been converted to regular employees,” and added, “We will create a youth-centered ‘future-oriented attractive city, Gangnam’ through various projects that provide quality jobs to young people.”
