Korean Party "Considering All Measures Including Constitutional Appeal Against Proportional Party Ban Decision"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Liberty Korea Party announced that it will "explore all possible measures, including filing a constitutional complaint," in response to the Central Election Commission's decision to reject the name 'Proportional Liberty Korea Party.'
Kim Seong-won, spokesperson for the Liberty Korea Party, criticized on the 13th, "As recently as December last year, the Election Commission's interpretation was that establishing a proportional party did not violate current laws. Was it legal yesterday and illegal today? Just yesterday, Cho Hae-joo, a commissioner from Moon Jae-in's presidential campaign, presented guidelines, and now it seems they are bowing to the regime's influence."
He continued, "This is why there is strong public suspicion that the Moon Jae-in administration sent personnel from the presidential campaign to the Election Commission to distort the people's votes and manipulate the commission. The fairness of the Election Commission has been thoroughly destroyed by this incident, and the name Cho Hae-joo will be recorded in history as 'biased.'"
Spokesperson Kim stated, "The code minister appointed by the president has undermined the rule of law, and the code election commissioner appointed by the president has destroyed representative democracy," adding, "Article 8 of the Constitution guarantees the 'freedom to establish political parties.' Unless it violates the democratic basic order, if the requirements for establishing a party are met, the Election Commission is obliged to approve the registration. There is no basis whatsoever to claim that the establishment of the Proportional Liberty Korea Party violates the democratic basic order."
Regarding concerns about 'voter confusion,' he said, "This is an act that disregards the level of the people of the Republic of Korea. It is nothing but a blatant destruction of the freedom to establish political parties under the pretext of a hastily made excuse."

He criticized, "While the patchwork election law that distorts the people's choice was being rushed through, the Election Commission remained silent and neglected its fundamental duties. The Election Commission should also maintain fairness and neutrality toward the four minor parties acting as 'fake Democratic Parties.' It is clear that the rushed passage of the mixed-member proportional representation system distorts the political will formation of the people."
