Democratic Party Completes Nomination Management Committee Formation... Accelerates Preparations for General Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Democratic Party of Korea finalized the composition of the Nomination Screening Committee on the 13th and began full-scale preparations for candidate nominations for the upcoming general election.
On the same day, the Democratic Party announced the list of 18 Nomination Screening Committee members in a press release.
The committee consists of 8 internal party members and 10 external members. Among the internal members are Representative Won Hye-young, who was appointed as the chairperson on the 6th, Vice Chairperson and Secretary-General Yoon Ho-jung, Representative Baek Hye-ryun, Strategy Planning Committee Chair Lee Geun-hyung, Representative Jeon Hye-sook, National Labor Committee Chair Park Hae-cheol, National University Student Committee Chair Jeon Yong-gi, and former Representative Shin Myung.
The external members include former Dong-A Ilbo reporter Cho Byung-rae, Director of the People's Livelihood Economy Research Institute Ahn Jin-geol, Chairman of the May 18 Memorial Foundation Oh Jae-il, Co-Representative of the Green Consumer Network Yoon Young-mi, CEO of Myung Film Shim Jae-myung, lawyers Lee Hye-jung and Won Min-kyung, dentist Lee Hyun-jung, professional Go player Lee Da-hye, and Hwang Hee-do, who served as a member of the general election planning team.
They are scheduled to hold their first meeting on the 14th. Particular attention is being paid to what conclusions will be reached regarding whether to include the career histories of former Blue House aides running for election and the evaluation of incumbent lawmakers.
Hong Ik-pyo, the Democratic Party’s chief spokesperson, explained, "The matter of career history inclusion primarily falls under the jurisdiction of the Nomination Screening Committee. Once the committee makes a decision, it will be further discussed at the Supreme Council."

He added, "Regarding the list of the bottom 10% of incumbent lawmaker evaluations, procedural consultations will take place at tomorrow’s meeting. If the Nomination Screening Committee aggregates the results and determines the bottom 20%, penalty regulations will be applied to those with lower evaluations."
