1st Vice Minister of Science and ICT Discusses Innovation Plan for Korea Institute of Science and Technology
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Jeong Byeong-seon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, held a luncheon meeting with the presidents of the four major science and technology institutes on the 13th in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
At the meeting, Vice Minister Jeong, Shin Sung-chul, President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Kim Ki-seon, President of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Guk Yang, President of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and Lee Yong-hoon, President of the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), discussed innovation plans for the science and technology institutes.
Specifically, they discussed measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the science and technology institutes, including enhancing basic and field education, revitalizing collaborative research, and improving the efficiency and openness of institutional operations. They also exchanged opinions on ways to activate cooperation among the institutes and enhance the joint brand value, including expanding the role of the joint secretariat of the science and technology institutes, which was launched last year.

Vice Minister Jeong said, "Since KAIST was established in 1971, the science and technology institutes have played an important role in nurturing outstanding science and technology talents, and the public has high expectations." He added, "To firmly build our future through research achievements and talent development, the science and technology institutes and the government must continue to make efforts for innovation together."
