Why Did Gangnam Resident A Celebrate Lunar New Year by Sharing a Hand-Knitted Scarf?
Held for 8 Years on the 16th at Gangnam-gu Women's Capability Development Center... Donation to Local Social Welfare Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will hold the 8th ‘Ddasumi Scarf Knitting’ event for the underprivileged in the community on the 16th at 1:30 PM at Bongeunsa Temple and the Gangnam-gu Women’s Capability Development Center.
About 100 members of the Women’s Capability Development Center knitting class and local residents will knit scarves themselves, which will be delivered to elderly living alone with mobility difficulties and low-income vulnerable groups in the area. Last year, 137 knitted scarves were donated to four social welfare facilities in the district, including Seongmojaae Welfare Center and Multicultural Family Support Center.
The Ddasumi Scarf Knitting event, which began in 2013 by delivering hand-knitted wool hats to newborns in Africa, is held annually as a donation event practicing sharing.
The participation fee is 10,000 KRW (for yarn and knitting needle materials). Interested residents can check the Gangnam-gu Women’s Capability Development Center website (www.herstory.or.kr) or inquire by phone (544-8440).
