Arrest Warrant Issued for Stepmother Who Caused Death of Disabled Stepson by 'Cold Water Abuse'
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] The police have applied for an arrest warrant for a stepmother who caused the death of her disabled stepson by making him sit in cold water for an extended period.
The Yeoju Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 12th that they have applied for an arrest warrant for A (31) on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
Earlier, A is accused of abusing her stepson B (9, Level 2 speech disability) by making him sit in a children's bathtub filled with cold water on the veranda wearing only underwear at an apartment in Yeoju around 6 p.m. on the 10th, allegedly because he disturbed the preparation of dinner.
In the police investigation, A stated, "I intended to punish him because he did not listen to the instruction to stay still and was making noise, disturbing the preparation of dinner," and "After leaving him in the bathtub for about an hour, I took him to the room, dressed him, and laid him down to rest."
She also said, "After about an hour, when I tried to feed him dinner, he did not get up, so I reported it."
Additionally, the police found that there had been two previous reports of A abusing B in 2016, and that B had been separated through a child protection agency for about 33 months.
