'Announcer Legend' Im Taek-geun Passes Away at Age 89
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eun-byeol] Legendary broadcaster announcer Im Taek-geun passed away on the 11th. He was 89 years old.
Announcer Im Taek-geun was hospitalized last October due to heart problems and suffered from cerebral infarction and pneumonia before passing away around 8 p.m. the day before.
Born in Jongno, Seoul, he joined the Central Broadcasting Station as an announcer in 1951. He was a first-generation announcer who shared joy and sorrow with the public through his voice during the turbulent broadcasting era. Based on his high recognition, he ran for the National Assembly election in 1971 but was defeated, and also served as acting president at MBC.

The deceased's funeral is being held at Gangnam Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 14, and visitors can pay their respects from 1 p.m. today. The funeral procession is scheduled for 8 a.m. on the 14th, and the burial site is at Yongin Catholic Church. The chief mourner is his son, singer Im Jae-beom. Actor Son Ji-chang and his wife, actress Oh Yeon-soo, are also expected to be present at the funeral hall.
