Haenamdong Elementary School (hereafter Haenamdong Elementary) announced on the 10th that it was finally selected through a public contest for the 'Learner-Centered Space Innovation Project' promoted by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
The 'Learner-Centered Space Innovation Project' is an educational project by the Ministry of Education, implemented as one of Superintendent Jang Seok-woong's third-term election pledges to establish a future educational learning environment and the necessity of space innovation.
Haenamdong Elementary, which had suffered from inconvenient and outdated school facilities, gathered ideas from students, parents, and faculty to apply for the contest and was finally selected in May of last year.
Accordingly, Haenamdong Elementary received 785,000 KRW for classroom space operation and 100 million KRW for classroom space support projects, remodeling shared classrooms such as after-school rooms into spaces where students can feel rest and relaxation.
Students could not stop smiling as they saw the school, which was dark and outdated, reborn as a space combining play and learning.
Also, in the remodeled classrooms and the book cafe, they spent enjoyable time naturally communicating while gathering closely with friends.
In particular, children spent happy times in various spaces such as the animal learning center raising hedgehogs and hamsters, the gallery space, and after-school classrooms, nurturing their dreams through talents and creativity.
A student attending Haenamdong Elementary said, “I am happy that old classrooms like the English experience room have been transformed into spaces combining play and learning,” adding, “Above all, I enjoy spending meaningful break times with my friends.”
