[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] On the 10th, Park Ji-won, a member of the Alternative New Party, claimed that "it will be difficult for the fragmented conservatives to unite under the value of conservative grand unification" regarding the recent push for conservative grand unification by the conservative opposition.
In a phone interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the same day, Park said, "While I believe the principle of needing conservative grand unification is desirable for political development, I am skeptical about whether such unification can be achieved realistically ahead of the general election."
Park pointed out, "The biggest issue is the 'Let's move beyond Park Geun-hye's impeachment' among the three principles proposed by Yoo Seung-min of the New Conservative Party," adding, "They have not decided whether to treat it as if it never happened or to make a sincere public apology while reflecting deeply on the state affairs manipulation. If they just ignore it, the public will not forgive them."
He continued, "Park Hyung-joon, chairman of the Innovation and Integration Promotion Committee, seems to be implying 'let's not argue and just go,' which denies the spirit of the times and history," and added, "If they intend to purge, some factions should be excluded from nominations in this process, but would those people accept it?"
Additionally, Park said, "Currently, Hwang Kyo-ahn's Liberty Korea Party, Park Geun-hye's Our Republican Party, Yoo Seung-min's New Conservative Party, Lee Jae-oh's National Integration Coalition, and even Ahn Cheol-soo's new party are all fragmented, which means they are divided," and stated, "If Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, truly wants conservative grand unification, he should talk with people like Yoo Seung-min, Cho Won-jin, and Lee Jae-oh, but saying he will talk with Lee Eon-ju or Lee Jung-hyun means further division."
Regarding the actions of former People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo, Park said, "Although he advocated centrism during his time as leader of the People's Party, he is originally a conservative figure," and predicted, "I think he will aim for a conservative grand coalition within the Bareunmirae Party based on the Ahn Cheol-soo faction of current lawmakers."
