Hwasun-gun, Nationwide First to Attach Road Curb Stickers in Children's Protection Zones
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 9th that it has become the first in the nation to implement a project attaching sheet stickers to road curbs within child protection zones.
Before the passage and enforcement of the 'Min-sik Act (Partial Amendment to the Road Traffic Act, etc.)' by the National Assembly, the county promoted a project to attach sheet stickers to the sides of road curbs in child protection zones to enhance child traffic safety.
In December last year, the county attached sheet stickers to the road curbs in the child protection zone near Oseong Elementary School as a pilot project.
This was carried out to help vehicle drivers easily recognize child protection zones, encourage slow driving (under 30 km/h), prevent parking and stopping within the protection zones, and raise awareness about child traffic safety.
Additionally, the county established a close cooperative system with the Hwasun Police Station and inspected 30 child protection zones, completing maintenance of aging traffic safety facilities (anti-slip facilities, boundary fences, signboards, etc.) within the zones.
By investing 150 million KRW of county funds, the county also completed maintenance of child traffic safety facilities, including installing LED vehicle speed indicators at three locations in front of elementary school main gates.
This year, the county plans to newly designate two zones?one child protection zone and one disabled protection zone?and install traffic safety facilities.
Within this month, the county intends to jointly inspect the existing 30 child protection zones with the police station and repair any old or damaged facilities.

A county official stated, “We will create an optimal traffic safety environment in child protection zones to reduce traffic accidents and make Hwasun safer. We plan to promote traffic safety projects and expand traffic safety facilities such as lowering speed limits on major urban roads (Safe Speed 5030), installing speed enforcement cameras (7 locations), floor-type pedestrian signals, and pedestrian safety zones.”
