[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The neighborhood childcare center in Jung-gu, the 'Jung-gu All Children Jungnim, Son Ki-jeong Center,' officially began operations on the 27th of last month.
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) held an opening ceremony for the Jung-gu All Children Jungnim Center on the afternoon of the 7th and conducted a parent orientation. Additionally, at the opening ceremony of the Son Ki-jeong Center on the 10th, there will be an opportunity to share and communicate childcare policies with parents.
Starting with the 'Jung-gu All Children Sindang Center,' which began operations in November last year, the Jungnim and Son Ki-jeong Centers, the 2nd and 3rd branches of the Neighborhood Childcare Centers in Seoul Jung-gu, are out-of-school elementary care centers providing childcare services to all elementary students in need of care.
The Jungnim Center is located on the 1st and 4th floors of the Jungnim Welfare Center (16 Seosomun-ro 6-gil) with an area of 220㎡, and the Son Ki-jeong Center is set up on the 1st floor of the Son Ki-jeong Cultural Center (101 Son Ki-jeong-ro) with an area of 155㎡. Each facility has a capacity of 40 children.
The centers operate from 1 PM to 8 PM during the school term and from 8 AM to 8 PM during vacation periods. To provide thorough care for the children, two dedicated teachers are assigned along with two additional teachers. Various play and learning programs designed to engage the children's interests are also prepared.
Use of the centers and programs is completely free of charge. There are no additional fees for snacks, dinner, or lunch provided during vacation periods. To reassure parents even when separated from their children, notification texts are sent when children enter and leave the centers.
A working parent who attended the opening ceremony expressed satisfaction, saying, "As someone who works, it is so reassuring to have a place where I can trust and leave my child. My child also likes it because there is a space to enjoy various programs and interact with peers."
The Jung-gu style elementary care is emerging as a benchmarking case for other districts and is attracting significant attention externally. This is evidence that its achievements are being recognized publicly. The district plans to accelerate active childcare efforts by discovering special programs that utilize local resources such as businesses and universities within the district.
