[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Korean sport climbing athlete Kim Ja-in said on the 7th regarding her husband, former firefighter Oh Young-hwan, joining the Democratic Party, "I will quietly believe in and support him."
Kim Ja-in stated on her Instagram, "You must have been very surprised to hear the news of my husband's party membership today," adding, "It was an extremely difficult decision for a man who wanted to live his life as a firefighter saving lives, and I have watched from the beginning as he made this tough decision, which he couldn't tell anyone about for weeks, and steadily prepared for it."
She continued, "The first step of that arduous process was a moment I wanted to simply encourage and support, so I attended quietly alone with a lot of tension, but due to the unexpected sudden welcome, flashes, and media coverage, I also had a very bewildering day."
Kim Ja-in also said, "When we first met in 2013, I lived dreaming only of climbing, and he lived dreaming only of firefighting," adding, "We have and will continue to respect each other's choices and paths, quietly believe in and support each other, doing our best for our dreams in our respective places, unchanged in the past, present, and future."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party announced on the same day that firefighter Oh Young-hwan would be their fifth recruited talent to run in the April general election.
The Democratic Party introduced Oh as "a passionate young firefighter who has been recognized for diligently serving as a field rescue worker and striving to widely publicize the sweat and tears of on-site firefighters who risk their lives to protect the people's property and safety under harsh conditions."
Oh started as a 119 rescue worker at Gwangjin Fire Station in 2010, then worked at the Seoul 119 Special Rescue Team's mountain rescue unit, Seongbuk Fire Station, and most recently served as a field worker at the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters.
