Ulsan Traffic Accident Deaths Plummet... Record Low
29.7% Decrease Compared to the Previous Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Last year, the number of traffic accident fatalities in Ulsan was 52, showing a 29.7% decrease compared to the previous year.
According to statistics from the Ulsan Police Agency on the 7th, this is the lowest record since the opening of the Ulsan Police Agency in 1999.

View original imageThe Ulsan Police Agency has improved facilities at accident-prone locations, strengthened traffic safety education and promotional activities, and intensified enforcement of major traffic violations. They also formed a local traffic safety council with traffic-related organizations and groups such as Ulsan City to improve the traffic safety culture in Ulsan.
Furthermore, through years of analysis of the causes, times, and locations of traffic accidents in Ulsan, safety activities were carried out focusing on the three major vulnerable areas: drunk driving, single motorcycle accidents, and pedestrian accidents.
As a result, fatalities from traffic accidents caused by drunk driving decreased by 71.4% (from 14 to 4), recording the highest reduction rate nationwide, and fatalities from single motorcycle accidents decreased by 36.4% (from 11 to 7).
Pedestrian fatalities, which had the highest share among fatalities every year, also decreased by 50% (from 32 to 16), ranking first in the nation in this category as well. In particular, elderly pedestrian fatalities decreased by 62.5% (from 16 to 6).
The police strengthened safety management for commercial vehicle accidents, which accounted for more than 10% of total fatal accidents annually. As a result, fatalities from commercial vehicle traffic accidents decreased by 50% (from 10 to 5), and there were no fatal accidents caused by freight vehicles.
