Busan Coast Guard, Special Crackdown on Crimes Disrupting Public Livelihood During Lunar New Year Holidays
Operation of a Total of 7 Dedicated Enforcement Teams by Port and Harbor Until the 27th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] The Busan Maritime Police Agency announced on the 6th that it will conduct special crackdowns until the 27th to prepare for various marine crimes that infringe on the livelihoods of ordinary people, such as illegal fishing, due to increased demand for seafood before and after the Lunar New Year holiday.
During this period, the Busan Maritime Police will organize dedicated crackdown teams for each port and fishing harbor to carry out coordinated enforcement activities linking maritime and land operations, and maintain a response posture to quickly handle any incidents that occur.
The main targets of the crackdown are ▲ false labeling of origin and distribution of substandard food products ▲ illegal fishing that depletes marine resources ▲ advance payment fraud exploiting the labor shortage of fishermen ▲ human rights violations such as assault on marine workers and labor exploitation.
Considering the difficult economic situation, the Busan Maritime Police plan to focus on guidance-oriented enforcement for minor offenses such as livelihood-related crimes by small-scale fishermen during this special crackdown. However, they will strictly handle chronic illegal fishing and human rights violation crimes according to law and principles.
