[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Seong Chi-young (48), a suspect in the moving company murder case that occurred in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk in 2009, has been publicly wanted. It has been 11 years since the incident occurred.
The National Police Agency announced on the 5th that they selected 20 people, including Seong Chi-young, as public wanted targets for the first half of 2020, and posted 20,000 flyers containing photos and personal information of the wanted persons at government offices nationwide.
Seong Chi-young is accused of stabbing and killing Lee Mo (then 37), the younger brother of the moving company owner, with a weapon at a moving company office in Jeongeup in April 2009.
According to the police, Lee, who lent 500,000 won to Seong Chi-young, went missing on April 20, 2009. That day was the day Lee urged Seong Chi-young to repay the money. At that time, Seong Chi-young had been declared bankrupt by the Jeonju District Court.
After Lee's disappearance, on April 25, 2009, Seong Chi-young left a message to his family saying, "I will cool my head," and then fled.
Lee was found as a skeletonized body in a disused septic tank at a construction site about 3 km away from the moving company office in July 2014, about five years after his disappearance. The autopsy revealed that he died from being stabbed more than ten times with a weapon.
Seong Chi-young has not revealed his identity even after more than ten years, leaving the case unsolved. According to the police, Seong Chi-young is of small stature, 164 cm tall, and speaks with a Jeolla dialect.
