[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) held the 2020 New Civil Servant Appointment Ceremony on the 3rd at the district office's medium conference room.
The event took place for 30 minutes starting at 9 a.m., including the reading of the civil servant oath and a greeting from the mayor. About 50 people, including Mayor Seong and the new civil servants, attended.
After the ceremony, a visit to pay respects was held at Hyochang Park (177-18 Hyochangwon-ro). To instill patriotism and proper attitude as public officials, the district has been conducting related events annually for new civil servants.
Mayor Seong, who led the memorial incense offering, explained to the staff the historical significance of Hyochang Park and Uiryeolsa, saying, "This is where the patriots who sacrificed their lives like grass to regain the country during times when there was no nation rest."
He also said, "I prayed to the patriots to watch over the new civil servants starting fresh today so they can serve the country and its people wholeheartedly," and urged, "Please become public officials who warmly care for those who are struggling and in hardship."

Uiryeolsa is a shrine housing the portraits and memorial tablets of these seven patriots.
After paying respects at Uiryeolsa, the new employees toured the graves of Kim Gu and the three righteous martyrs with Mayor Seong and listened to stories about the lives and achievements of the patriots from Lee Jong-rae, chairman of the Hyochangwon Seven Patriots Memorial Association.
New civil servant Yu Bi (32), who attended the event, said with a bright smile, "I feel nervous and excited as it is my first time, but coming to Hyochangwon to pay respects and start anew was a meaningful time for me and my colleagues."
New civil servant Park Joo-won (female, 33) said, "I prepared for about a year and a half to become a social service civil servant," and expressed her aspiration, "I will strive to become a social worker who approaches those in need more closely, as the mayor said."
